Mr. Yiping Xu is a Chinese patent attorney, trademark attorney, Attorney-at-Law, and a law professor, with a physics degree from Fudan University, Shanghai, China.
In 1979, Mr. Xu was named as one of the official delegation members to the United States Patent & Trademark Office to study intellectual property laws, regulations, and practice. Upon his return to China, Mr. Xu took part in drafting the first Chinese patent law and regulations and establishing the Chinese Patent Office, Shanghai Branch in 1980-1983.In 1984, Mr. Xu founded Shanghai Patent Law Firm. In 2010, Mr. Xu retired from the Shanghai Patent Law Firm after almost 30 years of being the Director General and later the Chairman of the Board.
In early 2011, Mr. Xu returned from his retirement and founded a new law firm, Xu and Partners, LLC, together with other experienced intellectual property attorneys, lawyers and administrators to serve clients in China and worldwide.
Over thirty years, Mr. Xu has devoted his entire career to the intellectual property business and authored a number of books on intellectual property laws in China and hundreds of academic papers on improvement on the intellectual property system in China. Mr. Xu visited clients and organizations in many countries throughout Europe, Asia, North America, and South America. Mr. Xu introduced the Chinese intellectual property laws, regulations and enforcement status to his clients and many educational organizations and became Who-Is-Who in the world of intellectual property fields.
Mr. Xu is one of the veteran members of INTA, AIPPI, AIPLA, and many other international and local IP law associations and has been engaging in exchange activities related to international intellectual property laws and practice. Mr. Xu serves as the Vice Chairman of Council Committee of China Intellectual Property Society, Vice President of China Trademark Association, Advisor of All-China Patent Agents Association, Vice President of Shanghai Association of Inventions, Vice President of Shanghai Trademark Association, Vice Chairman of Council Committee of Shanghai Electronics Association, Mediator of Shanghai-Rhone-Alpes Mediation Centre, Arbitrator of Shanghai Arbitration Commission, Member of the Committee of Experts of Shanghai Intellectual Property Arbitration Commission, Member of the Committee of Experts of Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration Authority, and Professor of the IP Research Centre of Fudan University, to name a few.
